Avoiding Wedding Cake Mistakes
Wedding cakes are a massive part of your big day , from tasting delicious, looking amazing and being one of the main attractions of the day. If you have a sweet tooth as many people do, planning and tasting your cake is going to be super important. Mistakes can be made though so to avoid disappointment on the day The Cake Rooms is ready to share some secrets on how to avoid disappointment.
Consider the season
It’s always good to think about the season of your wedding and how your cake is going to be stored throughout the day. Imagine the sun beaming down all day on your wedding cake causing it to melt and destroying your cake. Would there be anything worse? Put plans in place to keep your cake safe until it’s time for it to be cut.
Frosting and too many colours
Most brides and grooms keep their cake in-line with the colour scheme for the day, you might want a bright cake with every colour you can think of. Sometimes this can look distasteful and ruin the overall look. Sticking to a neutral colour scheme can keep things looking sophisticated.
Frosting colours that stain
Frosting comes in a wide variety of amazing colours but using vibrant colours is a huge risk. They may look more appealing but they stain easily. Would there be anything worse than a permanent bright pink stain on your white dress?
Letting a friend bake your cake
While your friend may have good intentions offering to make you a cake , unless they have a lot of experience or consider themselves professional we recommend avoiding this option. You don’t want to be dissatisfied on the day if you’re expecting something amazing and it’s not to the standard you would like. Do you really want to fall out with a friend on your wedding day? Or not have the cake you dreamed of?
Research your baker
Always do your research. All professional bakers and cake makers build up portfolios over time and will have no problem sharing their work with you, it’s so easy to do research online and look for reviews.
Too much decoration
Pretty self explanatory, same as too much colour, too much design on your cake can look sloppy and distasteful keep things simple, less is more.
DON'T pick the cake up yourself
Weddings can be expensive and you may be trying to save a little cash where you can, it may seem a good idea at the time getting a friend or family member to do it but there's so many scenarios we’re things could go terribly wrong. Get your cake maker to safely transport the cake to you after all they know how to handle the cake properly they have done it so many times they’re an expert.
Too Many Flavours
If you have decided to have a few different flavours then it’s definitely worth having flavours that complement each other. You don’t wanna go crazy and throw too many flavours into the mix. People might find the taste nasty and not like it, would there be anything worse than leftover wedding cake? We recommend 2 flavours together is enough and definitely easier on the pallet.
